Strictly Elvis No. 4 (August 1968)
By Bob Pakes
Welcome to issue No. 4 of Rocky Barra‘s legendary Strictly Elvis!
In this magazine we can read a report from Rocky’s trip to the RCA Studios in Nashville, including a nice interview with Felton Jarvis.
Also a first hand review from someone who actually attended the filming of the NBC Special in late June 1968. To be able to read about this career-changing event, 4 months before the TV Special first aired on national television, is just incredible!

My sincere thanks and utmost respect goes to Rocky Barra.

Wowee! That brings back a lot of good memories from the late 60s! I missed
out on the first 3 issues, number 4 started my subscription that lasted till circa
1973/4…I didn’t renew because from that time on, it was one concert tour after
another filling the pages of Strictly…Not my cup of tea anymore. But Rocky deserves
respect for bringing back excitement to to the fan magazines at the time. Elvis
Monthly had lost all direction, with sloppy printing and run of the mill photos.
Brings back wonderful memories. Thank you, Bob!
Rocky deserves a ton of credit! Back then, it wasn’t easy printing / publishing a booklet and then having to mail them all out.
Joe
Your comment is based on experience, Joe? Before Rocky started Strictly,
there had been other US Elvis fan publications such as Elvis Tankers and
The Elvis Echo. Echo was a nicely printed large size cross between a mag
and a newsletter, with good quality photo reproduction. I don’t see the
difference in what they did and what Rocky would do later on? For all the
people involved it was a labour of love…And that included mailing out the
1000 ( or more) envelopes, holding the newsletter / magazine, the world
over.
Very nice memories of these mags. Thanks. I had these and the ‘Echo’.
Thanks!
Very interresting to read.
Nice to read this old stuff.
Fantastic piece … great read.
I remember the news back in ’68 of the re-recording of Baby Let’s Play House as mentioned in Strictly Elvis No. 4-1968. Does anyone know something about that?
