Caramba! Elvis In Argentina!
By Ger Rijff
The Vik albums from Argentina.
In 1956 RCA Victor launched their subsidiary label Vik, which was previously known as label “X”. To get a piece of the R&B market, Victor signed many black artists, such as The Treniers, Louis Jordan and Mickey and Sylvia (of the hit ‘Love Is Strange’) for their new Vik label.
In South America, for a while at least, Elvis could be found on RCA Victor and, as part of compilation albums, on Vik. Such was the case with the four albums from Argentina released during the 1950’s. All four covers feature cartoon-like illustrations on front, and the song titles on the back. None featured photos of the artists.
Two cool 50’s magazine covers from Argentina.

Shown here is the promo version of this album.
Since Elvis was featured on both sides of this record, scans of both label-sides are included.
And for good measure, an original inner sleeve is also presented here.
The RCA Victor albums from Argentina.
As far as we know, no other official Elvis albums on the VIK label are known to exist. We continue our journey thru Argentina with the regular RCA releases. Kicking off with two different pressings of that very first album Elvis Presley.
Where incomplete, we will try, with the help of Chris Giles, and hopefully some of you, to find the missing labels and back covers.
In the meantime, enjoy these great classics from long ago!

WOW!!!!!!!
Excellent. Fantastic records guys.
Thanks for showing them.
Jim.
Thanks, amigos. I feel we’re doing quite good with 30 stories- so far- that have gone
online since our start, less than 4 weeks ago…! Ofcourse not everybody is happy
with the huge success of Echoes. But we can understand that… It must be a tough
experience for some to see what they are missing out on, with us doing our own
thing these days. Quality rules.
Never seen these records before.
Thanks !!
I can’t remember that I’ve seen these before. Nice to see here.

Very cool indeed!
Thanks for such an amazing website, this has to be heaven on earth. So many fascinating stories accompanied by all these magnificent photos, wow. I’m so impressed I’m planning to stay in front of the PC all day long, and it’s really sunny outside now with girlies walking up and down the street. Still I can’t quit looking at this wonderful site. You’re the definite best, finally a place for us early Elvis-addicts! Wouldn’t it be cool to add the great import-album Loving You Recording Sessions to this VIK-discography, it sure had the best album-cover I’ve ever seen.
Nice records. Not seen their version of Golden Records Vol.2 before. I wish i had these in my collection…sigh!!!!
I think the Argentine purple labels are among the prettiest of all .
I love the promo of the the Elvis Presley LP.
I wish I had it. I‘ll make do with the regular purple label version.
Great work on this site guys, keep it up!
Jim.
